What you will do

• Lead the architecture, design, and implementation of the Customer Agent core platform and AI capabilities.
• Drive technical strategy and long-term system evolution for conversational AI serving millions of users.
• Build and ship complex AI-powered features, balancing speed, quality, and reliability.
• Partner with Product, Design, and Data Science leaders to define product direction and execution plans.
• Establish engineering best practices for observability, testing, monitoring, and operational excellence for AI systems.
• Mentor engineers through technical leadership, design reviews, and hands-on collaboration.

Requirements

• 12+ years of software engineering experience building and operating production systems at scale.
• Significant experience designing and shipping customer-facing AI-powered products or agentic systems.
• Strong backend engineering and distributed systems fundamentals (scale, latency, reliability).
• Expertise with modern AI architectures, including LLMs, retrieval systems, agent workflows, and orchestration.
• Proven ability to lead complex, multi-quarter technical initiatives involving multiple stakeholders.
• Must be based in Boston, MA for this onsite role.

Nice to have

• Experience building conversational AI or customer support automation platforms.
• Experience with production evaluation systems, AI observability, and human-in-the-loop workflows.
• Background in building 0→1 products or working in startup environments.
• Previous experience as an entrepreneur.
