Engineering Manager, Site Defense (Cybersecurity)

Engineering Manager, Site Defense (Infrastructure): Leading and growing the Site Defense and Transport teams to protect Reddit from DDoS, bots, and undesired traffic with an accent on global traffic routing and edge security. Focus on migrating to Cloudflare, adopting gRPC/xDS, and expanding the Site Defense Platform for improved bot detection and reliability.

Salary: $217,000 - $303,900 USD

What you will do

• Lead, hire, and develop a high-caliber team of infrastructure engineers across Transport and Site Defense.
• Define technical strategy for global traffic, edge/CDN, service discovery, and bot detection infrastructure.
• Drive execution on high-risk platform migrations, including CDN migration and Thrift to gRPC.
• Establish priority frameworks to balance roadmap commitments, incidents, and business-critical migrations.
• Maintain a healthy operational model for critical infrastructure, including SLOs, on-call quality, and incident response.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Info Sec, ML Platform, and Site Experience SRE.

Requirements

• 3+ years of people-management experience for infrastructure, SRE, or security engineering teams.
• 5+ years of experience building or operating internet-scale distributed systems and networking.
• Strong technical judgment in Kubernetes, Envoy, gRPC, CDNs, DNS, and load balancing.
• Experience managing operationally critical services, including incident response and production-change safety.
• Must be based in the United States.

Nice to have

• Experience with edge security, bot defense, DDoS mitigation, WAF, or fraud infrastructure.
• Experience with Cloudflare, Fastly, Akamai, or similar CDN providers.
• Knowledge of ML-enabled platform systems, online scoring, and signal pipelines.
• Hands-on software engineering experience in Go, Rust, Python, Java, or C++.
