Director, Legal (UK & Europe)

TL;DR

Director, Legal (UK & Europe): Establishing and leading the regional legal function for a digital business platform provider with an accent on commercial legal matters, compliance, and strategic governance. Focus on drafting complex technology agreements, managing regional legal risks, and advising executive stakeholders on employment and regulatory laws.

Location: Hybrid: Must be based in the UK with an expectation of approximately three days per week in the office (Reading, UK)

Salary: £130,000 - £160,000 per year

What you will do

• Lead all commercial legal matters across UK & Europe, including drafting and negotiating complex technology, cloud, software, and professional services agreements.
• Develop and lead the regional legal and compliance framework aligned with UK, EU, and local regulatory requirements.
• Provide strategic employment law advice supporting organizational change, acquisitions, and complex employee relations.
• Manage regional disputes, litigation, and the performance and spend of external legal advisers.
• Partner with executive leadership and departments (Sales, Finance, Operations) to develop commercially effective governance frameworks.
• Conduct strategic legal risk assessments and advise senior leadership on risk appetite and mitigation.

Requirements

• Qualified Solicitor (England & Wales) or Barrister holding a current practising certificate.
• Significant post-qualification experience (PQE) gained in private practice and/or in-house legal roles.
• Experience advising senior executives within an international commercial environment.
• Knowledge of UK GDPR, the Data Protection Act 2018, and applicable EU data protection legislation.
• Strong communication and executive stakeholder management skills with the ability to challenge constructively.
