Principal Backend Software Engineer (SaaS)

Location: Fully remote within the US Pacific or Mountain time zones; the posting lists San Francisco, United States.

Salary: $174,051–$227,233 in Zone C, $188,730–$246,398 in Zone B, or $209,700–$273,775 in Zone A per year, depending on location.

What you will do

• Unblock challenges throughout the software development lifecycle, from technical design through launch.
• Create solutions used by other engineering teams and products.
• Define approaches for large projects and resolve complex architecture challenges.
• Apply architectural standards to new projects and lead code reviews and technical documentation.
• Handle complex, high-risk bug fixes and collaborate across engineering teams on company-wide projects.
• Mentor junior engineers and transfer expertise across programming languages.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience in hands-on software or technology leadership roles with end-to-end software development lifecycle responsibility.
• Bachelor’s degree; a Computer Science degree is preferred.
• Expertise in one or more prominent programming languages, such as Java, Python, Kotlin, Go, or Scala.
• Hands-on experience with public cloud offerings such as AWS, GCP, or Azure, plus understanding of SaaS, PaaS, and IaaS.
• Experience evaluating trade-offs between correctness, robustness, performance, and resource usage.
• Experience mentoring engineers, influencing decision-makers, and considering customer impact in technical decisions.

Nice to have

• Experience in Developer Experience or Developer Productivity.
• Proficiency in Java or Node.
• Experience with an additional programming language.
• Experience with Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment.
