Safety Process Engineer (Robotics)

TL;DR

Safety Process Engineer (Robotics): Supporting internal safety approval processes for third-party automation equipment and leading certification for internal autonomous robotics products with an accent on compliance, validation, and certification schedules. Focus on coordinating with certification bodies, executing audit and witness tests, and ensuring alignment with safety standards.

Location: Hybrid - Must be based in or be able to relocate to Warren, Michigan (onsite at least 3 days a week)

What you will do

• Support internal safety approval processes for third-party automation, including autonomous mobile robotics (AMR).
• Lead third-party certification activities for internally developed autonomous robotics products.
• Develop and manage certification schedules, milestones, and risk management plans.
• Coordinate with certification bodies and testing organizations regarding scope, audit logistics, and witness testing.
• Plan and execute audit activities, including pre-audit reviews, evidence capture, and corrective action tracking.
• Review technical documentation and compliance packages to drive certification gaps to closure.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Systems, Electrical, Mechanical, or Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or Mathematics.
• 3+ years of experience in certification, compliance, validation, or product safety for electromechanical systems or robotics.
• Experience planning and executing certification audit tests and witness testing.
• Strong project coordination skills and ability to manage multiple timelines and stakeholder inputs.
• Must not require immigration sponsorship now or in the future.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with standards such as ISO 13849, IEC 61508, ISO 12100, ISO 3691-4, or ANSI B56.5.
• Experience with autonomous mobile robotics (AMR) technologies and industrial controls.
• Knowledge of internal automotive safety approval processes and launch readiness.
