TL;DR
Principal Software Engineer (Database): Designing and implementing a next-generation, multi-tenant database platform with an accent on engine features, elastic scaling, and global reliability. Location: Hybrid in San Mateo, CA (Onsite Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday)

What you will do
- Design and implement core database engine features including indexing, storage formats, and replication protocols.
- Develop the control plane for elastic scaling and zero-downtime tenant migration across global regions.
- Optimize critical code paths using kernel-level tracing to reduce tail-latency.
- Lead design reviews, failure drills, and establish engineering best practices.
- Build automation frameworks for CI/CD, observability, and autoscaling.
- Mentor engineers and contribute to open-source projects like PostgreSQL and RocksDB.
Requirements
- 8+ years of software engineering experience.
- Deep expertise in large-scale distributed databases or storage engines (e.g., PostgreSQL, RocksDB, Spanner).
- Strong knowledge of database internals (B-trees, MVCC, WAL) and proficiency in C/C++, Go, or Rust.
- Experience with consensus algorithms (Raft, Paxos) and multi-region replication.
- Proven track record of shipping high-QPS, low-latency services on Kubernetes or Nomad.
- Must have valid United States work authorization (certain visa categories and H-1B sponsorship may not be supported).
Nice to have
- Upstream contributions to PostgreSQL, RocksDB or other OSS databases.
- Familiarity with disaggregated storage, HTAP workloads, or custom query languages.
