Senior Software Engineer (Web3 Backend)

Location: Menlo Park, California, or New York, New York; hybrid attendance required at least 3 days per week.

Base pay: $196,000–$230,000 USD annually for Zone 1 locations. Other listed compensation zones range from $153,000 to $202,000 annually depending on location.

What you will do

• Architect, build, and operate resilient, highly scalable distributed systems and backend services for Robinhood Wallet, Tokenization, and Web3 infrastructure.
• Bridge traditional financial infrastructure, including brokerage, ledgers, and corporate actions, with on-chain systems.
• Develop smart contract integrations, chain indexers, DEX trade flows, and infrastructure for decentralized trading and settlement.
• Lead large, ambiguous engineering initiatives by defining architecture and breaking multi-quarter work into milestones.
• Partner with Product, Compliance, Security, and engineering leadership to define roadmaps and deliver high-impact systems.
• Mentor engineers, lead design and code reviews, and improve reliability, observability, and operational rigor.

Requirements

• 5+ years of software development experience designing and maintaining distributed systems at scale.
• Advanced backend development skills with Go, Python, or Java.
• Strong knowledge of cloud-native and event-driven architectures, system design, distributed data modeling, concurrency control, and scalability.
• Experience with correctness-critical systems, including idempotency, financial reconciliation, ledger consistency, and failure-mode design.
• Technical leadership experience involving cross-functional alignment, complex technical problem-solving, and mentoring.
• Strong interest or hands-on experience with blockchain fundamentals, EVM, smart contracts, wallets, on-chain settlement, or decentralized infrastructure.
