What you will do

• Architect, implement, and deploy end-to-end software services producing clean, scalable, and reusable code.
• Work with a modern, event-driven architecture running on containerized cloud infrastructure (AWS/EKS).
• Mentor junior engineers to support their growth and lead technical interviews to scale the team.
• Act as a subject matter expert on technology and domain-specific payment problems.
• Improve the overall responsiveness and performance of core web services.

Requirements

• Proficiency in Java or Kotlin with a strong track record of architecting and developing new services.
• Experience building applications with event-driven architectures.
• Familiarity with containerization (e.g., EKS) and cloud platforms, ideally AWS.
• Working knowledge of both SQL and NoSQL databases.
• Ability to own the design and architecture of large-scale, API-heavy software solutions.
• Must be based in or able to commute to the London office 3 days per week.

Nice to have

• Deep experience with Java 17+ and the Spring ecosystem (Boot, REST, Data, circuit breakers).
• Experience with event-streaming and messaging tools such as Kafka, EventBridge, SNS, or SQS.
• Familiarity with Kubernetes tooling like Helm and Infrastructure as Code via Terraform.
• Previous professional experience within the payments domain.
