Software Engineer - Payments Systems (Fintech)

Location: London, UK; minimum three days per week in the office

What you will do

• Build highly reliable, API-driven payment systems integrating with external banks and payment gateways.
• Translate product and design requirements into clean, maintainable, well-tested components.
• Collaborate with product managers, business, operations, designers, and backend engineers.
• Identify and resolve performance, accessibility, and usability issues.
• Participate in code reviews, contribute to shared component libraries, and improve engineering standards.
• Support operational health and maintain a high SLA for payment features.

Requirements

• Strong expertise in Java and Spring Boot, with the ability to work with TypeScript, React, Go, and Python.
• Experience driving technical decisions and owning complex, large-scale engineering problems end to end.
• Hands-on experience building scalable architectures with Kafka and Kubernetes.
• Understanding of global payment ecosystems, external banking APIs, and operational workflows.
• Knowledge of software design patterns, distributed systems, clean code principles, and automated testing.
• Ability to manage technical debt, negotiate requirements, and deliver reliable solutions collaboratively.
