Location: Preferred Los Angeles, but remote considered for the right candidate (regular travel to HQ required)

Salary: $225,000 - $300,000 base + variable compensation and equity

What you will do

• Shape deal terms for the transition toward outcome-based and productized commercial work.
• Manage and secure major research grants to fund foundational AI Alignment work.
• Structure and negotiate first-of-their-kind partnerships with government agencies, research labs, and universities.
• Oversee the ownership, licensing, protection, and publishing of intellectual property.
• Handle core in-house workstreams including NDAs, vendor agreements, employment, and corporate governance.

Requirements

• JD from an accredited law school and active, good-standing membership in the California bar.
• Proven strength in commercial transactions and technology/AI legal work.
• Substantial in-house experience or strong firm training with a high level of professional judgment.
• AI-native workflow, using the latest AI tools to optimize legal practice.
• Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, ambiguous, high-ownership environment.

Nice to have

• Experience across IP, nonprofits, grants, and government contracting.
• Technical background or deep experience collaborating with engineers and technical teams.
