Surgical Assist / Preservationist (1099 Independent Contractor)

Location: Washington, D.C., US; candidates must be based in the Washington DC area. Field-based work with the ability to respond to an operational hub within 2 hours or a major commercial airport within 1 hour.

What you will do

• Provide surgical assistance during organ procurement and recover donor grafts according to applicable policies, regulations, and transplant-center requirements.
• Pack supplies, prepare operating rooms using aseptic technique, and package organs according to OPTN guidelines.
• Remain available for recoveries during scheduled call days and travel by ground or air as required.
• Support hospital and medical staff committees addressing donor issues.
• Collaborate with Quality and Operations staff to develop best-practice protocols.
• Train and evaluate new team members and support teams in using Paragonix devices and applications.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Health Science or equivalent experience in a transplant-related field.
• Experience with pre-operative and post-operative care for transplant donor and recipient patients, including at least 20 heart and 20 lung transplants in a UNOS-approved program, or at least 20 thoracic transplants within the last 2 years.
• ABTC certification as a CPT or CPTC and at least 3 years of transplant experience in an operating room.
• Ability to safely and consistently lift up to 75 pounds.
• Ability to travel by private and commercial ground and air transportation.
• Must be based in the Washington DC area and able to respond to an operational hub within 2 hours or a major commercial airport within 1 hour.

Nice to have

• Certified surgical technologist certification.
• CSFA or RN FA certification.
