Principal Electrical Engineer (Medical Devices)

Location: Lafayette, Colorado, United States. Work model: minimum 4 days per week onsite. Travel up to 10–15% may be required.

Salary: $134,400–$201,600 per year, plus eligibility for the hirify.global Incentive Plan.

What you will do

• Lead electrical engineering activities for released surgical hardware, including product enhancements, sustaining engineering, lifecycle management, and engineering changes.
• Design, integrate, verify, and validate mixed-signal electrical systems and subsystems for surgical medical devices.
• Define hardware architectures and technical solutions balancing performance, reliability, manufacturability, regulatory compliance, and cost.
• Lead system-level troubleshooting, quality investigations, root-cause analysis, and corrective actions involving electrical, mechanical, software, and firmware interactions.
• Support supplier changes, obsolescence management, manufacturing issues, field concerns, EMC testing, electrical safety testing, and requalification decisions.
• Mentor electrical engineers and provide technical leadership across cross-functional engineering initiatives.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline with 7+ years of relevant experience, or a master’s degree with 5+ years, or a PhD with 3+ years.
• Experience across mixed-signal board design, including architecture, circuit design, schematic capture, component selection, PCB layout reviews, and design verification.
• Strong knowledge of analog and digital circuit design, signals and systems, frequency-domain analysis, power electronics, and system integration.
• Experience with OrCAD, laboratory equipment, and high-voltage systems up to approximately 5 kV.
• Knowledge of IEC 60601 standards, FDA Quality System Requirements, ISO 13485, risk management, and regulated product development.
• U.S. work authorization is required; Principal-level roles may be eligible for U.S. sponsorship.

Nice to have

• Experience with released medical devices, surgical hardware, or electrosurgical products.
• Experience with supplier qualification, component obsolescence, VAVE, cost optimization, EMC, and electrical safety testing.
• Systems engineering, requirements-driven development, Agile, Lean, Six Sigma, or A3 problem-solving experience.
