What you will do
- Lead the end-to-end drafting and procurement of FAA authorizations, Certificates of Authorization (COAs), Letters of Agreement (LOAs), and regulatory exemptions.
- Manage FCC aircraft radio station licenses, experimental licenses, and spectrum coordination for C2 link architecture and telemetry.
- Own the manufacturer-side regulatory posture, including airworthiness documentation and Declaration of Compliance under emerging frameworks.
- Develop Concept of Operations (CONOPs), Safety Risk Management (SRM) documentation, and operational risk assessments.
- Track and analyze FAA rulemaking (e.g., Part 108) and represent the company in standards bodies and industry working groups.
Requirements
- Demonstrated experience shepherding FAA submissions for UAS operations through to issuance.
- Strong aviation background (e.g., former FAA personnel, military aviation officer, or UAS program manager).
- Proficiency in technical writing to translate operational realities into persuasive regulatory submissions.
- Working knowledge of CONOPs development and SRM frameworks aligned with FAA criteria.
- Must be based in or able to work on-site in El Segundo, CA.
Nice to have
- Former FAA Aviation Safety Inspector or UAS Integration Office staff experience.
- Direct experience winning BVLOS authorizations incorporating ground-based detect-and-avoid (DAA).
- Familiarity with AS9100 and federal contracting prerequisites (e.g., Blue UAS Cleared List).
- Bachelor's or advanced degree in aerospace engineering, aviation management, atmospheric science, or aviation law.
