Head of Qualification (Aerospace Manufacturing)

Location: Los Angeles, CA; on-site

Salary: $151,000–$225,000 per year, plus equity

What you will do

• Lead qualification activities for military customers from technical-data intake through government acceptance.
• Perform hands-on engineering, including DFM reviews and process planning, while leading cross-functional teams to qualify parts on schedule.
• Act as the technical interface for qualification issues, operational blockers, customer program offices, depots, and engineering teams.
• Make and defend engineering determinations regarding parts, specifications, and equivalency, translating government requirements, TDPs, and quality standards into qualification and manufacturing plans.
• Identify and develop internal capabilities based on recurring qualification needs and customer feedback.
• Design scalable qualification processes and feedback loops with software teams to support continuous improvement.

Requirements

• Engineering degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Aerospace, or a similar field.
• Significant hands-on design or manufacturing engineering experience, including recent work performed directly.
• Track record of engineering decisions that held up when challenged by a customer, prime, government authority, or another engineering organization.
• Experience with technical data packages, drawings, GD&T, military specifications, and defense quality requirements such as AS9100, FAI, and source inspection.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced startup environment while navigating the Department of War’s typical pace of work.
• Must be a U.S. citizen or national, lawful permanent resident, protected individual, or eligible to obtain the required U.S. Department of State authorizations under ITAR.

Nice to have

• Customer-facing or program management experience; this does not replace the requirement for technical depth.
• Prior military service or civilian Department of War experience.
