TL;DR

Electrical Engineer (Marine): Designing and developing electric and hybrid propulsion systems for commercial vessels with an accent on control panel design, low voltage distribution, and hardware definitions. Focus on translating control architectures into manufacturable hardware, owning IO allocation, and validating systems through bench tests and sea trials.

Location: On-site in Torrance, CA. Relocation assistance may be available depending on eligibility.

Salary: $115,000 – $140,000 per year

What you will do

  • Translate high-level control architectures and P&IDs into detailed hardware definitions and panel layouts.
  • Own logical IO allocation, schematics, and 2D/3D panel layouts.
  • Generate manufacturing data packages, including BOMs, wire lists, and terminal strip diagrams.
  • Perform hands-on wiring, testing, and debugging of both high and low voltage systems.
  • Develop and maintain bench test systems to ensure feature parity with production vessels.
  • Support sea trials to validate and certify systems while interfacing with suppliers and shipyards.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of experience as an Electrical Engineer, Automation Engineer, or similar role.
  • Strong electrical fundamentals focused on control panel design and low voltage distribution.
  • Proficiency with electrical design software such as Zuken, EPLAN, or AutoCAD Electrical.
  • Experience specifying industrial automation hardware (PLCs, IO modules, network switches).
  • Knowledge of industrial and automotive communication protocols (Ethernet/IP, PROFINET, Modbus, CAN).
  • Practical experience designing, building, and troubleshooting electrical panels.

Nice to have

  • Firsthand experience working on commercial marine vessels.
  • Familiarity with UL508A, IEC 61439, or ABS, USCG, IEEE, and IEC standards.
  • Experience with functional safety (DFMEA, redundancy strategies) for mission-critical systems.
  • Knowledge of EMI/EMC, grounding, and shielding practices in marine environments.
  • Advanced expertise in Zuken Panel / E3 modules.
