Principal Engineer (Substation Automation)

Principal Engineer (Substation Automation): Serving as a subject matter expert for complex substation automation projects with an accent on technical leadership, QA/QC, and mentoring. Location: Must be authorized to work in the United States. Available as fully remote or hybrid in Lakewood, CO.

Salary: $150,000–$200,000 per year

What you will do

• Act as a subject matter expert on complex substation automation projects, including SCADA and protection systems.
• Perform and review detailed designs, electrical diagrams, and equipment specifications.
• Spearhead the implementation of technical standards and provide leadership for QA/QC processes.
• Train, coach, and mentor engineers to promote quality and career growth.
• Assist the Business Development team by interpreting RFPs and developing cost estimates.
• Lead field inspection, testing, and commissioning of automation systems.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology.
• 7+ years of relevant engineering or field experience.
• Must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
• Deep experience with high voltage substation automation, including IEC 61850.
• Proficiency with SCADA, SEL/Siemens relays, and industrial network configuration (PRP).
• Strong interest in training, mentoring, and coaching team members.

Nice to have

• Professional Engineer (PE) licensure.
• Involvement in industry committees and technical conferences.
