Engineering Director (Fintech)

Location: San Francisco, US; onsite leadership of the US engineering team

Salary: $200,000–$300,000 annual base pay, plus potential equity and bonus.

What you will do

• Lead the Expenses sub-domain, owning product vision, delivery, and roadmap for corporate cards, expense management, and spend workflows.
• Guide technical architecture across the Spend domain, with emphasis on data engineering, AI, analytics, and scalable distributed systems.
• Scale the US engineering organization, establish new squads, and mentor Engineering Managers and technical leads.
• Drive operational excellence through challenging OKRs, improved delivery processes, and consistent quality across concurrent projects.
• Partner with Product, Design, Commercial, and Engineering leaders to align technical execution with business strategy.
• Own talent acquisition for the domain and help build the San Francisco engineering site and employer brand.

Requirements

• 10+ years of software engineering experience, including 5+ years in engineering leadership roles.
• Experience managing managers or Engineering Leads and building high-performing teams.
• Strong product thinking and experience defining roadmaps, prioritizing delivery, and driving business outcomes.
• Deep technical fluency in software architecture and system design for large-scale, complex distributed systems.
• Experience working in fast-paced, high-growth environments with strong ownership and execution.
• Ability to work in San Francisco, US and lead the local engineering organization.

Nice to have

• Experience in fintech, financial services, payments, or another regulated industry.
• Experience with AI/ML-driven products, data engineering, analytics, or agentic automation.
• Experience collaborating across global time zones and with distributed engineering teams.
