Directors of Engineering (AI/Fintech)

Salary: $250,000–$350,000 per year, plus equity

What you will do

• Own organizational design, team boundaries, charters, and staffing plans for a segment of approximately 25–40 engineers across 3–5 teams.
• Lead, coach, and hold accountable 3–5 engineering managers while developing first-time managers and future leaders.
• Drive headcount planning, recruiting, interviewer training, and hiring of senior engineers.
• Align roadmaps with Product, manage quarterly commitments, and improve predictable delivery across teams.
• Uphold on-call, incident response, SLO, release, testing, observability, and architecture standards for enterprise financial systems.
• Partner with peer Directors, Security, and Compliance on shared platforms, SOC 2, enterprise security reviews, and AI governance.

Requirements

• 10+ years of software engineering experience, including 5+ years managing engineers and 2+ years managing managers.
• Experience leading 20+ engineers through rapid growth with multiple managers reporting to you.
• Experience building or operating systems where correctness and auditability are critical, such as fintech, accounting, payments, or ERP.
• Technical credibility with senior individual contributors, including architecture, data-model, and infrastructure decisions.
• Hands-on interest in running LLMs and agents in production.
• Clear, direct written and verbal communication with the ability to give constructive feedback.

Nice to have

• Experience taking a product through enterprise security and compliance, including SOC 2, SSO/SAML, and vendor reviews.
• Familiarity with revenue recognition, GAAP close, and accounting integrations such as Stripe, Deel, Rippling, banks, or payroll systems.
• Experience with MCP or integrations for AI platforms.
• Depth in Python and relational databases.
