Senior Software Engineer (Secure Mission Systems): Designing, building, and delivering secure mission-planning and decision-support software for the DoD with an accent on application engineering, secure CI/CD, and AI-capability integration. Focus on implementing containerized deployments via Kubernetes and OpenShift and ensuring cybersecurity remediation through automated scanning tools.

Location: Mainly remote, with periodic onsite work in Laurel, Maryland (approx. every six weeks). Active final DoD Secret clearance required.

What you will do

• Design, develop, and integrate new software capabilities for DoD mission planning and decision support.
• Build and maintain secure CI/CD workflows using GitLab and support containerized application deployment through OpenShift and Kubernetes.
• Integrate AI models and support capabilities involving LLM assistants, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and agentic AI.
• Perform cybersecurity remediation and investigate vulnerabilities using automated tools like Fortify, JFrog Xray, and OWASP ZAP.
• Create technical design documents, sequence diagrams, workflow descriptions, and test reports.
• Collaborate with customer technical leads in both remote and onsite settings.

Requirements

• Active final DoD Secret clearance.
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field.
• 10+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Hands-on experience with CI/CD, Kubernetes, GitLab, and OpenShift.
• Proven background integrating AI models or AI-enabled capabilities into applications.
• Strong understanding of secure SDLC practices and automated testing.

Nice to have

• Experience with OWASP ZAP and Artifactory or similar artifact-management platforms.
• Background supporting defense, national security, or other highly regulated missions.
• Proficiency with Jira, Confluence, and Slack in a structured development environment.
