Lead Software Engineer (Fullstack)

Location: Košice, Slovakia

Salary: €4,600+ gross per month; base minimum pay of €52,824 annually, plus a performance-related annual cash incentive.

What you will do

• Lead hands-on engineering delivery and translate architectural intent into scalable, secure, maintainable solutions.
• Own the technical backlog, reducing technical debt through dependency upgrades, performance improvements, reliability work, and security remediation.
• Supervise test management and defect handling, partnering with QA and L2/L3 support on production readiness.
• Set standards for code quality, test coverage, delivery predictability, and engineering metrics.
• Mentor engineers, identify skills gaps, support upskilling, and promote modern development tooling including AI-assisted development.
• Collaborate with Slovakia-based engineering leadership and Cat Digital IT in the US.

Requirements

• Strong understanding of SDLC, Agile delivery, enterprise software development, and complex technical systems.
• Experience with HTML5, CSS3, React, Node.js, Next.js, JavaScript, TypeScript, Java 21, and Spring Boot 3.
• Experience designing REST APIs, microservices, event-driven and distributed systems, asynchronous communication, and system integrations.
• Knowledge of authentication and authorization, OAuth2, OpenID Connect, entitlement-driven access models, and modern identity management.
• Experience with AWS and/or Azure, CI/CD pipelines, Docker, cloud-native deployment, automated testing, regression strategies, and Playwright.
• Knowledge of secure-by-design practices, OWASP Top 10, SAST, DAST, dependency scanning, application security, privacy, and compliance.

Nice to have

• Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
• Experience modernizing or stabilizing large, long-lived codebases.
• Exposure to production monitoring, observability, and operational support.
