Lead Developer, Embedded Engineering

Location: Oakville or Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. Flexible hybrid working model with in-person and virtual work supported.

Salary: $116,200–$155,000 CAD annual base salary.

What you will do

• Define architecture and own technical initiatives for complex embedded systems and firmware from requirements through production.
• Develop and review secure, scalable software for RTOS, Embedded Linux, and bare-metal environments.
• Improve modular, reusable, hardware-independent firmware practices and contribute to the product and engineering roadmap.
• Design unit, integration, simulated, and hardware test frameworks following test-driven development principles.
• Analyze firmware functionality and device health using SQL, GBQ, and hirify.global datasets.
• Provide peer review, technical mentorship, and guidance on engineering trade-offs and delivery quality.

Requirements

• Expert knowledge of C/POSIX, object-oriented design, data structures, algorithms, and embedded design patterns.
• Several years of experience with preemptive real-time operating systems or multi-threaded Embedded Linux systems.
• Strong knowledge of RTOS, Embedded Linux architecture, microcontrollers, ARM or RISC-V architectures, and SoCs such as STM32, NXP, or Renesas.
• Understanding of electronics, schematics, component datasheets, and embedded communication protocols including UART, SPI, I2C, and CAN.
• Experience with Python or Bash, Pytest or Robot Framework, SQL, Git, CI/CD, and build systems.
• Degree or diploma in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, plus experience in Agile or Scrum environments.
