TL;DR
Early Career Software Developer - Embedded Software (C/C++): Building and maintaining embedded vehicle control and data planes that deliver configuration from the cloud and transfer fleet data to cloud storage with an accent on distributed systems, intermittent connectivity, and resource-efficient ECU software. Focus on designing reliable configuration delivery and data egress, integrating Azure, AWS S3, and Firestore, and instrumenting production software for fleet observability.

Location: Hybrid, with a minimum of three days per week at the Markham Elevation Centre in Markham, Ontario; Oshawa, Ontario is also listed.

Salary: CAD 73,900–110,900 per year.

What you will do

  • Design, implement, and maintain the embedded control plane that retrieves cloud configuration and applies it across vehicle ECUs.
  • Build and maintain the embedded data plane that collects, processes, and forwards vehicle data to cloud storage.
  • Optimize configuration delivery and data egress for intermittent connectivity, rapid convergence, and minimal CPU and memory usage.
  • Integrate cloud services including Azure, AWS S3, and Firestore for configuration delivery, device state reporting, and data transfer.
  • Collaborate with DevOps and Cloud teams to roll out vehicle software and configuration safely.
  • Add fleet observability, troubleshoot production issues, and contribute documentation and patches to open-source projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, computer engineering, data science, data engineering, mechatronics, robotics, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or a related field.
  • Graduated or graduating between January 2026 and May 2027.
  • Ability to work full-time, 40 hours per week.
  • Foundation in C, C++, or a related language through coursework, internships, or personal projects.
  • Must not require sponsorship to work in Canada now or in the future.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills, with an interest in learning production software delivery and support.

Nice to have

  • Experience with Formula SAE, SAE AutoDrive Challenge, EcoCAR, Baja SAE, or a similar collegiate vehicle engineering team.
  • Exposure to Linux, Android, or QNX and foundational knowledge of distributed systems, configuration management, or data pipelines.
  • Familiarity with UDS, CAN, SOME/IP, XCP, AUTOSAR, mTLS, certificate-based device identity, and network security protocols.
  • Experience with AWS, GCP, Azure device management services, OpenTelemetry, Firestore, CI/CD, fleet management, OTA, or remote configuration systems.
