Lead Data Engineer (AI)

Location: Toronto, Canada; hybrid work with at least 3 days per week in the office

Salary: $106,000–$148,000 base pay annually, plus bonus or commission, equity, and benefits

What you will do

• Design, implement, and maintain data platform components focused on data onboarding and automation.
• Build and optimize ingestion pipelines for cleaning, transforming, and loading structured and unstructured data.
• Develop automated data processing, transformation, and quality assurance workflows.
• Build distributed data pipelines for real-time and batch processing across cloud environments.
• Promote collaborative code reviews, maintainable solutions, engineering best practices, and continuous improvement.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
• 10+ years of professional experience in software or data engineering.
• Proficiency in Python and working knowledge of SQL and Spark/PySpark.
• Hands-on experience with cloud platforms, data tools, distributed pipeline development, and orchestration.
• Strong written and verbal English communication skills, including clear and concise documentation.
• Ability to work from the Toronto office at least 3 days per week in a hybrid arrangement.

Nice to have

• Experience building and integrating AI tools into data engineering workflows.
• Data engineering certification, such as a Databricks Data Engineering certification.
• Experience in fintech, capital markets, or regulated data environments.
