What you will do

• Lead the technical direction of the recommendations platform, balancing relevance, marketplace health, reliability, and latency.
• Design large-scale distributed systems for online serving, feature delivery, and experimentation loops.
• Resolve high-leverage technical challenges across the recommendations stack and clarify ambiguous architectural decisions.
• Establish organization-wide engineering standards, architectural principles, and observability practices.
• Mentor senior engineers and influence technical strategy across multiple engineering teams.
• Drive long-term platform evolution through service decomposition, infrastructure improvements, and AI-assisted engineering.

Requirements

• Must be based in or able to work hybrid in Austin, TX.
• 8+ years of experience building large-scale backend or distributed systems.
• Deep expertise in Go, Kotlin, Java, or similar modern languages.
• Strong understanding of recommendation systems (retrieval, candidate generation, ranking, feature serving).
• Experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) or comparable public cloud infrastructure.
• Proven track record of defining technical strategy and mentoring senior-level engineers.
