What you will do

• Design, build, and operate high-traffic backend systems as a technical authority.
• Mentor senior engineers and conduct design and code reviews to raise engineering standards.
• Drive technical direction on complex, cross-cutting problems while balancing reliability and performance.
• Transition into people management, leading a team of engineers and managing performance and growth.
• Represent team technical direction and staffing needs in cross-functional planning.
• Partner with platform governance groups to align on shared standards and reliability.

Requirements

• Must be based in London and able to work from the office.
• Operating at a Staff engineer level with hands-on experience in high-scale backend systems.
• Proven ability to work independently in ambiguous environments and drive execution.
• Strong communication skills for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Active desire to transition into a people management role with prior mentoring or leadership experience.
• Ownership mindset for production systems and long-term technical roadmaps.

Nice to have

• Experience with C#/.NET and SQL.
• Experience designing or building GraphQL and/or REST APIs.
• Experience with reporting or scheduled-reporting systems.
• Experience building AI or agentic systems.
