What you will do

• Systematically study how nitrogenous substrates shape genomic and functional signatures of microbial communities.
• Combine experimental and theoretical systems microbiology approaches including high-throughput bioreactor cultivations.
• Utilize multi-meta-omics techniques such as metagenomics and metaproteomics.
• Develop mathematical models to understand nitrogen-cycling microbial community assembly and function.
• Collaborate in an interdisciplinary environment at the interface of environmental biotechnology and engineering.

Requirements

• MSc in Chemical or Environmental Engineering, Systems Microbiology, Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, or a closely related field.
• Demonstrable laboratory experience and interest in the design and operation of laboratory-scale bioreactors.
• Excellent spoken and written English (IELTS 7.0 or TOEFL 100 required if not a native speaker or degree holder from an English-taught institution).
• Strong analytical skills and a hands-on, independent, and curiosity-driven mindset.

Nice to have

• Experience with metagenomics and/or metaproteomics wet-lab procedures and bioinformatic analyses.
• Experience with Linux and scientific programming in R and/or Python.
