What you will do
- Handle full-range circulation duties: charging/discharging/renewals, holds/recalls, borrower record updates, fines payments, and missing-item tracing.
- Provide routine information assistance: directional and known-item requests, facility information, and guidance on navigating the library catalogue and website.
- Operate and troubleshoot library equipment and basic IT issues (copiers/printers, computers, micro reader/printer, connectivity) and liaise with relevant support units.
- Support collections and access: shelving, shelf reading/cleaning, shifting materials, processing routine library materials, and assisting with document delivery/interlibrary loan.
- Maintain library facilities and appearance: tidying spaces, cleaning public computer peripherals and labelling equipment, and coordinating repairs/custodial requests.
- Work varied shifts including evenings/weekends; during reduced staffing, serve as the sole circulation desk attendant and manage patron issues and emergencies.
Requirements
- High school graduation plus a two-year Library Technician diploma plus two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to work evening and weekend shifts as required and work a five-day work week.
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing and provide courteous, patient service to library users.
- Ability to follow instructions accurately, sort and file accurately, and maintain attention to detail.
- Ability to lift up to 20 kg of boxed materials and push fully loaded book trucks.
