TL;DR

BNLEK Community Liaison & Instructor Coordinator (Indigenous Education): Organizing instructional interactions and community partnerships for the Bachelor of Nłeʔkepmx Language Fluency with an accent on community outreach, internship management, and student support. Focus on cultivating relationships with First Nations Bands, coordinating first-language mentors, and ensuring respect for Nłeʔkepmx communication protocols.

Location: Must be based in Merritt, BC, Canada (Hybrid arrangement with at least 50% on-site presence)

Salary: $6,949.92 - $9,992.50 CAD Monthly

What you will do

  • Develop and maintain relationships with NVIT, Tribal Councils, and First Nations Bands to facilitate admissions, scholarships, and projects.
  • Coordinate language instruction, internships, and capstone projects between students and community stakeholders.
  • Manage administrative aspects of internships and capstone projects, including agreements, databases, and outcome reporting.
  • Organize and support first-language speaking mentors and elders to participate effectively in language instruction.
  • Provide guidance to students on community engagement and adherence to cultural protocols.
  • Contribute to the strategic growth and expansion of the BNLEK program and related fluency initiatives.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline.
  • 3-4 years of related experience in education or community coordination.
  • Lived experience of interior Salishan language community is required.
  • Experience in language revitalization and coordinating adult language training at the community level is required.
  • Experience working in educational contexts engaged with Indigenous communities is required.
  • Intermediate to high proficiency in Nłeʔkepmx or related Interior Salishan language.

Nice to have

  • Master's degree or equivalent professional experience.
  • Fluency in the Nłeʔkepmx language.
  • Experience working with Indigenous adult learners.
  • Residency within the Nłeʔkepmx territory.
