Research Technical Manager, AI Driven Cyber Security

Location: Hybrid, based in Ipswich, Bristol, or London, with office attendance required 3 days per week

What you will do

• Apply emerging AI technologies and programmable network capabilities to adaptive network-embedded security.
• Define and perform research in network security, including attacker and malware behaviour modelling.
• Turn research ideas into practical prototypes and support commercial adoption across products, services, and operations.
• Create intellectual property, manage patent filing, and author technical papers and thought leadership materials.
• Engage with business units, vendors, and other stakeholders to translate research into business value.
• Supervise professionals, graduates, postgraduate placements, and potentially Research Specialists or other team members.

Requirements

• Research experience in cybersecurity, including attacker and malware behaviour modelling.
• Practical experience applying AI and machine learning to real-world problems.
• Experience working with business stakeholders and vendor solutions teams.
• Expertise in cybersecurity, AI/ML applied research, and emerging technology trends.
• Knowledge of network architecture and protocols, requirements capture, and solution conceptualisation.
• Strong communication skills, with experience presenting research and technical expertise to peers and managers.

Nice to have

• Postgraduate qualifications, preferably a PhD or equivalent research experience.
• Experience in software development, project management, patenting, technical publications, or conference presentations.
• Experience with horizon scanning, concept evaluation, trials, and translating innovation into product or service value.
• Experience driving cultural or organisational change.
