Staff Software Engineer (Repositories)

What you will do

• Own the technical direction for customer-facing repositories, package registries, APIs, and artifact-serving systems.
• Design, build, and operate high-availability backend services in Go for libraries and future container, image, and APK repositories.
• Improve scalability, reliability, observability, performance, and load testing for production systems.
• Define repository architecture, service boundaries, and operational patterns for artifact-serving infrastructure at scale.
• Collaborate with engineers across the organization to create a cohesive repository experience and support additional artifact types.
• Mentor engineers, lead design and code reviews, and drive technical alignment across teams.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience building and operating production backend or infrastructure systems, with staff-level ownership and technical leadership.
• Strong Go experience or deep backend systems experience with the ability to ramp up quickly in Go.
• Experience with customer-facing infrastructure such as package registries, artifact repositories, APIs, developer platforms, or high-scale serving systems.
• Experience deploying and managing production services, including reliability, observability, performance, and operational trade-offs.
• Experience across application and infrastructure layers, including cloud infrastructure and infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform.
• Strong communication, collaboration, and systems problem-solving skills for a remote environment.

Nice to have

• Experience with Docker registries, GitLab package services, Artifactory, Nexus, or similar repository platforms.
• Knowledge of software supply chain security concepts such as provenance, SBOMs, and trusted artifact distribution.
• Open source experience in tooling, package ecosystems, or infrastructure used by developers at scale.
• Experience expanding multi-artifact repository platforms across libraries, containers, OS packages, or similar artifact types.
