Backend Engineer, EGYPT (Fintech)

Location: Egypt, with Cairo preferred; remote contractor role

What you will do

• Design, implement, and own critical backend infrastructure and service architecture.
• Improve system reliability, build and release processes, and overall system health.
• Integrate financial services with compliance and banking platforms.
• Identify weak points in the codebase and infrastructure and prioritize improvements.
• Collaborate with engineering, product, and operations teams to ship features across multiple markets.
• Contribute to engineering standards, code quality, and process improvements.

Requirements

• Experience in backend engineering, platform engineering, or infrastructure roles.
• Proficiency in backend languages and frameworks suitable for scalable financial systems.
• Strong knowledge of clean architecture, layered abstractions, and complexity tradeoffs.
• Broad experience with backend architecture, databases, site reliability, infrastructure as code, and CI/CD.
• Ability to design and manage secure systems with demanding security and compliance requirements.
• Ability to work independently and execute effectively in a fast-moving environment.

• Experience in startups, fintech, or regulated environments.
