TL;DR
Community Navigation Specialist (Human Services): Connecting immigrant and refugee clients with legal, healthcare, interpretation, and community services with an accent on outreach, referral coordination, and appointment navigation. Location: Iowa City, Iowa, United States; standard office environment

Pay rate: $21–$22.80 per hour

What you will do

  • Conduct outreach to eligible clients and provide individualized guidance on accessing community resources.
  • Coordinate referrals and appointments with accredited immigration legal service providers, certified healthcare partners, interpreters, and other support organizations.
  • Help clients navigate transportation, interpretation, appointment systems, and other logistical barriers.
  • Follow up with clients, monitor referrals and outcomes, and maintain accurate tracking and documentation.
  • Promote culturally responsive, trauma-informed, client-centered services and long-term self-sufficiency.
  • Collaborate with coworkers, service providers, interpreters, and community organizations.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience.
  • Relevant human services, community navigation, or nonprofit program experience; two years is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with immigrant and refugee populations is preferred.
  • Fluent English, spoken and written, is required.
  • Strong relationship-building, diplomacy, communication, organization, problem-solving, and multitasking skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a personal insured vehicle are required.

Nice to have

  • Proficiency in Swahili, Arabic, Spanish, Dari, or Pashto.
  • Lived experience connected to immigrant or refugee communities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, internet research, and digital data-entry tools.
