Software Engineer 2 (Kubernetes)

Location: USA-CA - Promontory B

Annual base salary: USD 101,000–162,000, plus discretionary annual bonus and equity awards.

What you will do

• Design and implement operating system techniques for managing virtual systems on x86 architectures.
• Architect scalable container services, container runtimes, and Kubernetes capabilities integrated with ESXi and vSphere.
• Develop highly available infrastructure for workloads spanning clusters and zones, including network and storage requirements.
• Maintain open-source code, deliver security fixes, and support upstream Kubernetes features.
• Build platforms for SaaS, CaaS, and FaaS workloads and collaborate with product management and cross-functional engineering teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• At least 5 years of relevant experience with a bachelor’s degree, 3 years with a master’s degree, or 0 years with a PhD.
• Strong proficiency in C, C++, Golang, and Python.
• Deep understanding of Linux/Unix internals, including processes, threads, memory management, and I/O.
• Experience leading system software projects or teams, architecting distributed systems, and optimizing operating system services or user-space applications.
• Familiarity with Docker, containerd, Kubernetes architecture, and strong verbal and written communication skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with hypervisors.
• Experience with Kubernetes configuration and low-level Kubernetes components.
• Experience with cloud platform architectures.
