Principal Software Engineer (Cloud Networking)

Location: Remote anywhere in the United States; some travel may be required based on business demand.

Salary: $192,000–$358,000 per year.

What you will do

• Build and operate the software underpinning Confluent Cloud’s mission-critical network data plane.
• Architect, design and develop high-performance, scalable, reliable and resilient distributed systems.
• Drive technical initiatives across networking, cloud infrastructure and multi-tenancy.
• Own architecture, roadmaps and execution for software projects while technically leading engineers.
• Collaborate with product teams and cloud providers and contribute to upstream open-source projects.
• Troubleshoot and improve a complex stack spanning AWS, Azure, GCP, microservices, containers and virtualization.

Requirements

• 12+ years of relevant cloud infrastructure or cloud networking experience.
• Strong distributed-systems design and development fundamentals and experience operating large-scale systems.
• Experience defining technical vision and roadmaps for large platform or infrastructure teams.
• Experience leading engineers and delivering complex infrastructure projects across teams.
• Proficiency in C++, Go, Python or another statically typed language.
• Experience with AWS, Azure or GCP and with Layer 7 proxies, especially Envoy.

Nice to have

• Contributions to CNCF or other open-source projects.
• Experience with Kubernetes networking and a strong networking background.
• Master’s degree or education in computer science or a related field.
