TL;DR

What you will do

  • Conduct critical issues analyses and provide technical guidance on species-related risks affecting permitting strategies, timelines, approvals, and execution.
  • Lead technical aspects of projects with senior staff by defining technical strategy and maintaining accountability for deliverables and outcomes.
  • Perform project reviews and effects analyses to ensure compliance with ESA regulations for federal and non-federal projects.
  • Participate in ESA Section 7 consultations (formal and informal) and support interagency coordination.
  • Draft key regulatory documents including Biological Assessments (BAs), Habitat Conservation Plans (HCPs), Environmental Impact Statements (EISs), Environmental Assessments (EAs), and state permit applications.
  • Coordinate with biological field surveyors on survey methods, implementation, and reporting for protected species compliance and permitting.

Requirements

  • Location: Must be based anywhere in the U.S.
  • Bachelor’s or graduate degree in biology, ecology, fisheries and wildlife, conservation biology, or a related field.
  • 3–7+ years of experience as a T&E SME, including consulting experience with ESA Section 7 consultations and ESA compliance due diligence for non-federal projects.
  • Experience ensuring compliance with BGEPA, MBTA, and other threatened and endangered species regulations.
  • Ability to lead multiple concurrent projects, prioritize competing demands, and respond to urgent, time-sensitive requests.
  • Experience with geo-spatial files in Google Earth and ArcGIS Online, plus demonstrated technical writing skills.
