Archaeologist Principal Investigator/Field Director (Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming)

Location: Remote, with the primary professional location throughout Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming, including Pocatello, Twin Falls, Idaho Falls, Butte, Missoula, and Rock Springs. Must be eligible to be employed in the US.

Salary: $75,000–$105,000 biweekly.

What you will do

• Lead cultural resources projects and business development opportunities, including archaeological and historic resources projects, field studies, and field-team assembly and supervision.
• Serve as Principal Investigator for research, archaeological surveys, monitoring, testing, data recovery, historical research, preservation activities, report preparation, site forms, and artifact curation.
• Lead cultural resources investigations under Sections 106 and 110 of the National Historic Preservation Act and support technical studies and permitting for private, federal, state, local government, and Tribal clients.
• Coordinate project mobilization and demobilization, supervise and mentor cultural resources staff, and provide technical and operational support to staff and project managers.
• Lead technical and strategic elements of proposals, including scope, schedule, and budget, and meet project management obligations.
• Ensure high-quality technical deliverables through independent and quality review protocols, while coordinating with clients, agencies, and Tribal representatives.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or a related field.
• Registered Professional Archaeologist status.
• Ability to hold state archaeology permits.
• At least five years of supervisory experience, preferably eight years of progressively responsible cultural resources experience, including management and/or educational experience in the Desert Southwest and Intermountain West; experience with architectural historians is included.
• Ability to meet deadlines while remaining detail-oriented, organized, team-oriented, and able to manage simultaneous tasks.
• Excellent verbal and written communication, professional writing, problem-solving, project planning, development, and management skills.
• Ability to work independently with general supervision and demonstrate strong people skills.
• Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite.
• Ability to satisfactorily pass pre-employment and post-employment drug and alcohol tests.
• Valid driver’s license and good driving record.
• Eligibility for employment in the United States.

Nice to have

• Existing permits or ability to obtain permits in Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming.
• Experience and capability providing cultural resources services across the continental United States.
