L2 Support Engineer (Linux)

Location: Bath, United Kingdom — Hybrid. Shift-based 24/7 pattern: 4 days on, 4 days off during daylight hours.

Salary: £35,000 annual compensation plus a 15% annual shift allowance.

What you will do

• Monitor live customer SDS software and infrastructure, troubleshoot incidents, and escalate issues to the operations team.
• Manage Windows and Linux server operating systems, including patching and software updates on SDS appliances.
• Provide technical IT support through email, phone, and online chat while maintaining customer satisfaction.
• Assist partners and customers with deploying SDS software and complete scheduled IT maintenance tasks.
• Manage corporate desktops and laptops, including onboarding new employees, setting up devices, and creating accounts.
• Record customer problems, identify trends, and support new products and technologies.

Requirements

• At least one year of experience in an IT operations support role working with Linux operating systems.
• Good understanding of routing and switching, DNS, DHCP, and firewalls.
• Experience in a customer-facing technical role with strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Willingness to learn and apply new technologies.
• Availability for the 24/7 daylight shift pattern.

Nice to have

• Experience with Nagios, CheckMK, Apache, CouchDB, Kubernetes, or Docker.
• Knowledge of AI technologies, Microsoft Copilot, GCP, or AWS.
• Experience with resilient and redundant file systems such as ZFS, DRBD, btrfs, LVM, RAID, CEPH, or clustering solutions.
• Shell scripting with Bash, Python, Perl, Ruby, or PowerShell.
