TL;DR
Research Scientist (Life Sciences, Computational) (AI/Computational Biology): Build and maintain analysis pipelines that support experimental biology, from large-scale sequence and structural bioinformatics to hypothesis generation and experimental follow-up with an accent on petabyte-scale data analysis, computational infrastructure, and integrating LLM-based workflows. Salary: $300,000 - $320,000 USD (annual)

What you will do

  • Build, run, and maintain analysis pipelines for experimental programs (sequence analysis at petabyte scale, structural bioinformatics, phylogenetic/comparative genomics, high-throughput functional screens, biological sequence modeling).
  • Partner with experimental biologists to design experiments and rapidly iterate based on results.
  • Use literature and curated biological knowledge bases with primary data to generate and prioritize hypotheses for experimental follow-up.
  • Stand up and maintain computational infrastructure (data ingestion, workflow orchestration, internal databases, and researcher/agent interfaces).
  • Use Claude and internal agent frameworks to produce analyses, and feed learnings back to model-improvement and product teams as evaluations, datasets, and failure cases.
  • Take on analyses across projects as priorities shift, emphasizing breadth and flexibility.

Requirements

  • PhD in computational biology, bioinformatics, genomics, biophysics, machine learning, computer science, or a related quantitative/biological field (or equivalent industry research experience).
  • Led end-to-end computational biology research from question to result, with evidence of impact (publications, preprints, released datasets/tools, or research that changed a program’s direction).
  • Demonstrated breadth across multiple areas of computational biology.
  • Proficiency in one or more programming languages used in scientific computing; comfortable working with large datasets in Linux and cloud compute environments.
  • Ability to scope an ambiguous biological question into an analysis that an experimentalist can act on.
  • Clear communication of computational results to both biologists and ML researchers.

Nice to have

  • Hands-on experience in experimental biology, or experience designing experiments alongside experimentalists.
  • Experience building tools, pipelines, or agentic systems on top of LLMs, or training models on biological sequence data.
  • Deep expertise in one or two areas of computational biology (e.g., structural biology, metagenomics, single-cell genomics, protein design).
