TL;DR
Scientist, Discovery Cheminformatics (Drug Discovery/AI): Applying cheminformatics and machine learning to guide small-molecule drug discovery programs, develop predictive models, and support iterative chemical synthesis with an accent on SAR analysis, ADME modeling, chemical-space exploration, and agentic workflows. Focus on building reproducible computational infrastructure, influencing compound selection, and encoding cheminformatics methods into AI-agent tools for compound proposal, triage, and analysis.

Location: Emeryville, California, United States. Primarily onsite, with remote hires considered for this role.

Annual salary: $145,000–$185,000, depending on experience.

Company

hirify.global is a clinical-stage drug discovery company developing therapies for protein misfolding diseases, rare diseases, and oncology through its Navigator platform combining synthetic biology, generative chemistry, and AI/ML.

What you will do

  • Lead cheminformatics across multiple small-molecule drug discovery programs and help determine which compounds are synthesized.
  • Develop methods for chemical-space exploration, predictive ADME models, scoring functions, and the company’s long-term computational strategy.
  • Collaborate with medicinal chemists and biologists to design and test chemical libraries and support hit-to-lead and lead optimization.
  • Build data and computational infrastructure that enables consistent, statistically rigorous self-service analysis.
  • Develop an agentic layer for discovery workflows, allowing AI agents to propose, triage, and analyze compounds with appropriate safeguards.

Requirements

  • Advanced degree, preferably a PhD, in chemistry, computer science, statistics, or a related field.
  • At least 2 years of academic or industry drug discovery experience.
  • Strong medicinal chemistry knowledge, including structure-property relationships and collaboration with chemists.
  • Deep cheminformatics expertise in SAR analysis, library enumeration, and property calculation, with experience using standard toolkits such as RDKit, Datamol, or OEChem.
  • Experience applying machine learning to chemical problems, including deployed QSAR or property models, using tools such as PyTorch, JAX, scikit-learn, or DeepChem.
  • Strong Python and data-stack skills, including NumPy, pandas, or Polars, plus experience with cloud infrastructure, databases, version control, reproducible analyses, and agentic workflow tooling.

Nice to have

  • Familiarity with protein structure analysis, docking, and molecular dynamics.
  • Experience curating public chemical datasets such as ChEMBL or PubChem.
  • A paper, preprint, or software repository demonstrating relevant work.

Culture & Benefits

  • Interdisciplinary collaboration across chemistry, biology, data science, and engineering.
  • Health benefits covering medical, dental, and vision care.
  • Equity and 401(k) matching.
  • Inclusive and supportive environment that values nontraditional backgrounds and equivalent combinations of experience.
