Senior Backend Developer (Infrastructure)

TL;DR

Senior Backend Engineer (Ruby/Infrastructure): Improving the long-term technical health and developer experience of the core application monorepo with an accent on scalability, reliability, and engineering standards. Focus on leading foundational upgrades, resolving security vulnerabilities, and building shared developer tooling to unblock product teams.

Location: Must be based in Canada (Ottawa, Toronto, or Calgary)

Compensation: $125,000–$165,000 CAD

What you will do

• Own and improve the long-term technical health of the monorepo.
• Plan solution designs and lead foundational upgrades across the stack.
• Address scalability, reliability, and performance concerns as the product grows.
• Build and maintain shared developer tooling, CI linting, and quality-of-life improvements.
• Resolve security vulnerabilities across the application and its dependencies.
• Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and support to product teams.

Requirements

• Strong experience with Ruby or Ruby on Rails.
• Experience designing maintainable systems and making pragmatic technical tradeoffs.
• Comfort working on platform, infrastructure, or developer experience problems.
• Strong testing habits to ensure long-term maintainability.
• Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across engineering teams.
• Must be based in Canada (Ottawa, Toronto, or Calgary).

Nice to have

• Experience scaling high-scale web applications.
• Past experience in e-commerce or health tech sectors.
• Experience with React or GraphQL.
• Experience improving CI systems, test suites, or feature flag systems.
