Occupational Therapy Life Skill Trainer Internship

Location: Salt Lake City, Utah, USA; activities take place in client homes and the community.

What you will do

• Provide life skills training under the direction of a staff occupational therapist.
• Teach practical activities such as using kitchen appliances, budgeting, paying bills, managing bank accounts, using public transportation, managing medication, and scheduling appointments.
• Assist with group activities, including pre-driving, job-seeking, and financial management sessions.
• Communicate and coordinate with caseworkers, health professionals, OT students, and other IRC programs.
• Document completed activities and client responses for the occupational therapist.
• Attend staff meetings and support the Salt Lake City office with assigned duties.

Requirements

• Interest in working with diverse populations and English Language Learners.
• Strong communication, computer, teamwork, flexibility, and independent-working skills.
• Valid driver’s license, access to a vehicle, and willingness to drive clients.
• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in English.
• Background check and, for candidates selected for interview, proof of COVID-19 vaccination.
• Minimum commitment of 10–20 hours per week.

Nice to have

• Background in health promotion, social work, or a related field.
• Fluency in additional foreign languages.
