TL;DR

Location: Remote-first; must be based in the United States or the United Kingdom. Optional office presence in New York, San Francisco, or London.

What you will do
- Partner with product, engineering, research, and commercial teams on IP issues including copyright, rights of publicity, trademarks, and trade secrets.
- Counsel on IP risk related to model development and AI outputs.
- Structure and negotiate complex licensing deals across various platforms.
- Develop frameworks to protect and extend the company's intellectual property position as it scales.
- Collaborate with outside counsel across different jurisdictions.
Requirements
- JD with active membership in at least one U.S. state bar or a law degree and qualification to practice law in the U.K.
- 6+ years of experience advising on intellectual property issues, including copyright and/or trade secrets.
- Experience drafting and negotiating complex IP-related transactions and licensing agreements.
- Strong command of the IP issues unique to generative AI companies.
- Ability to operate independently and make informed decisions in a fast-moving, high-growth environment.
Nice to have
- Experience with content distribution and licensing in the media, entertainment, music, or publishing industries.
- Experience managing IP risk in a software development environment.
- Combination of law firm and in-house experience.
