What you will do
- Design food & beverage manufacturing processes that integrate food safety, sanitary design, efficiency, regulatory compliance, and cost benefits.
- Supervise site visits, walk-downs, and site audits to gather field data for moderate projects.
- Create and manage core process deliverables including Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), and Mass & Energy Balances (M&EBs).
- Develop process design basis, process descriptions, and government compliance reports (e.g., emissions and wastewater).
- Perform sanitary equipment sizing/selection and prepare equipment specifications, bid evaluations, and shop drawing reviews.
- Design and validate CIP/SIP and thermal processing systems; run process calculations/simulations and support process safety studies, FATs, and SATs while mentoring engineers.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Chemical, Mechanical, Food, or Agricultural Engineering.
- 15+ years of experience in process design for the food & beverage industry.
- Strong fundamentals in chemistry, fluid dynamics, heat and mass transfer, material/energy balances, unit operations and separations, reaction kinetics, and thermodynamics.
- Ability to visit project job sites to gather field information (typical travel up to 7 days, several times per year).
- Knowledge of sanitary/hygienic design standards and FDA/FSMA food safety regulatory requirements (21 CFR Part 117, Part 113, Part 114).
- Hybrid schedule: be in the office a minimum of three days per week.
