UX Designer / Researcher

TL;DR

UX Designer / Researcher (AI-powered search): Own user research and UX design across discovery through to shipped product for Europe PMC, with an accent on AI-powered natural language search and communicating model outputs, limitations, and trust. Focus on designing for complex, data-heavy biomedical interfaces and validating decisions through usability testing and stakeholder workshops.

What you will do

• Lead user research across researchers, funders, and grant administrators, and turn findings into actionable recommendations.
• Plan and run workshops with senior internal and external stakeholders.
• Design AI-powered features, including natural language search, explaining outputs and limitations to build user trust and support transparency and reproducibility.
• Translate research into wireframes, prototypes, and interaction designs for complex, data-heavy products.
• Run usability testing programmes and use results to validate and refine design decisions.

Requirements

• Strong research and synthesis skills, with confidence presenting to non-design audiences.
• Proficiency in Figma or other design tools.
• Experience with data-heavy products (e.g., dashboards, search tools, structured data).
• Experience or strong interest in designing AI-powered features with a focus on transparency and reproducibility.
• Comfort working embedded in cross-functional teams with ML/data engineers.
• Familiarity with web analytics, basic HTML/CSS, and remote testing tools.
