TL;DR

Privacy Counsel (AdTech): Designing and implementing privacy operational compliance frameworks for advertising and media products with an accent on AI governance, identity resolution, and global data protection regulations. Focus on embedding privacy-by-design into the product lifecycle, negotiating complex commercial data agreements, and translating legal requirements into actionable product strategy.

Location: Must be based in the United States, with a preference for the West Coast (San Francisco or Los Angeles).

Salary: $122,250 – $255,000/yr

What you will do

  • Partner with product, engineering, and business teams to embed privacy-by-design into advertising products from ideation to launch.
  • Advise on privacy implications of AI-enabled products, machine learning models, and identity resolution strategies.
  • Counsel teams on U.S., Canadian, and global privacy laws, ensuring compliance with evolving industry standards.
  • Structure, draft, and negotiate complex commercial agreements, including MSAs, DPAs, and data licensing contracts.
  • Conduct privacy impact assessments and AI risk assessments for new initiatives.
  • Represent the company in industry organizations like the IAB, NAI, and DAA to shape responsible advertising standards.

Requirements

  • Attorney admitted to practice law with 5–7 years of experience in privacy, ad tech, or data governance.
  • Deep knowledge of U.S. state privacy laws and familiarity with Canadian and international frameworks (GDPR).
  • Experience negotiating data protection provisions and commercial technology agreements.
  • Understanding of modern advertising technology, including consent frameworks and addressability ecosystems.
  • Ability to communicate complex legal concepts in practical, actionable terms to cross-functional teams.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.

Nice to have

  • CIPP/US, CIPP/E, or comparable privacy certification.
  • Experience in programmatic advertising, DSPs, SSPs, or digital media.
  • Familiarity with global privacy frameworks like PIPEDA, LGPD, or APAC regimes.
