Lathe & Hone Aerospace Operator (Aerospace Manufacturing)

What you will do

• Set up and operate Colchester lathes and Sunnen honing equipment.
• Machine and refurbish aerospace components to extremely tight tolerances.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, work instructions, and GD&T.
• Select tooling, fixtures, cutting parameters, and honing stones for production work.
• Perform in-process and final inspections using micrometers, vernier calipers, bore gauges, dial indicators, and applicable CMM equipment.
• Adjust machine performance, complete quality documentation, finish components, and support continuous improvement and safe working practices.

Requirements

• Previous experience operating Colchester lathes and Sunnen honing machines.
• Background in precision engineering, aerospace, or high-specification manufacturing.
• Ability to work to micron-level tolerances and strong knowledge of machining and metal-cutting processes.
• Experience with precision measuring and inspection equipment, plus strong troubleshooting skills.
• Apprenticeship, NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, or equivalent qualification in mechanical engineering, manufacturing, or machining.
• Safety-focused, quality-driven, dependable, organised, and able to work independently or as part of a team.

Nice to have

• Aerospace manufacturing experience and knowledge of AS9100 quality standards.
• Experience working with titanium, Inconel, stainless steel, and aluminium alloys.
• Aerospace-related qualifications.
