Automation Engineer (Fusion Manufacturing)

hirify.global is a fusion company developing the hardware and infrastructure for commercial stellarator fusion power plants, advancing the Wendelstein 7-X technology through its Alpha and Stellaris machines.

What you will do

• Advise on future production-line design and automation concepts.
• Define requirements for automation cells used in welding, bonding, sealing, coating, and other magnet-production processes.
• Develop control strategies and commission automation cells, including factory acceptance testing at supplier sites.
• Identify and test manufacturing and in-process monitoring approaches.
• Design jigs and tools and support magnet process development and prototyping with a focus on scalability and repeatability.
• Collaborate with engineers and technicians across multiple teams.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in mechanical, mechatronics, or a similar engineering field.
• Broad industrial experience in robotics, automation, and process monitoring.
• Hands-on production experience across processes such as welding, machining, assembly, and bonding.
• Experience with robotic simulation and offline programming; familiarity with FANUC systems is beneficial.
• Familiarity with industrial communication protocols such as OPC UA, Ethernet, and Profinet.
• Proficiency in industrial PLC programming and the ability to work collaboratively across varied technical tasks.

Nice to have

• Experience in both prototype and industrial manufacturing.
• Knowledge of Catia V5 or 3DExperience.
• Exposure to SCADA systems, MES integration, Beckhoff PLC and motion control.
• Knowledge of safety standards and risk assessments for automated environments.
