Staff AI Data Scientist (Healthcare)

Location: Waterloo, Ontario, Canada

Salary: CAD 184,000–206,000 base salary per year, plus bonus, equity, and benefits

What you will do

• Lead AI and data strategies supporting data-driven healthcare products and initiatives.
• Design scalable data architectures, robust pipelines, and machine learning systems using clinical and real-world healthcare data.
• Develop advanced machine learning, NLP, LLM-based, and agentic AI solutions.
• Build reusable and scalable tools for structured and unstructured clinical data.
• Partner with technical and business leaders to identify opportunities and deliver high-impact solutions.
• Mentor data scientists and engineers while communicating analytical insights to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Requirements

• Advanced degree in computer science, statistics, applied mathematics, biomedical informatics, biomedical engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
• 7+ years of experience applying advanced machine learning and AI techniques to clinical or digital health applications.
• Experience with supervised and unsupervised learning, NLP, LLMs, and prompt optimization.
• Experience curating real-world healthcare data, including EHRs and structured and unstructured clinical data.
• Strong proficiency in Python and experience building scalable data science and machine learning solutions.

Nice to have

• Ph.D. in a quantitative discipline specializing in AI, machine learning, or a related field.
• Expertise in prompting, fine-tuning, retrieval-augmented generation, transformer-based deep learning, and agentic AI.
• Experience with TensorFlow or PyTorch and production-grade software and machine learning systems.
• Knowledge of clinical data, healthcare terminologies, and medical ontologies.
• Experience leading complex cross-functional initiatives and navigating ambiguous problems.
