Senior Machine Learning Engineer (AI)

Location: Remote in Canada, with Ottawa, Calgary, Toronto, or Vancouver preferred.

Salary: CAD 140,000–160,000 per year base salary.

What you will do

• Design, build, and deploy LLM-powered features for lab summaries, clinical workflows, and practitioner-facing conversational agents.
• Build Python backend services that integrate LLMs and machine learning models into the product, with increasing exposure to Elixir.
• Develop systems for open-ended clinical questions, follow-up interactions, and reasoning over structured and unstructured healthcare data.
• Implement prompting, grounding, retrieval, and safety strategies to improve output quality, consistency, and clinical relevance.
• Build evaluation, testing, monitoring, and CI/CD workflows covering accuracy, hallucinations, edge cases, and reliability.
• Own AI systems end to end, from experimentation and prototyping through production deployment and ongoing improvement.

Requirements

• 7+ years of experience in machine learning engineering, applied AI engineering, backend engineering, or a similar field, with production systems experience.
• 2+ years of recent hands-on experience building LLM-powered applications, conversational agents, RAG workflows, tool-use systems, or agentic systems.
• Strong Python backend development skills, solid SQL fundamentals, and experience with data-heavy product environments.
• Experience integrating models such as OpenAI, Gemini, Anthropic, or similar systems into user-facing products.
• Experience with LangChain, LangGraph, Hugging Face tools, MCP, Langfuse, agent orchestration, or comparable AI frameworks.
• Strong engineering practices covering Git, testing, CI/CD, observability, evaluation, and production monitoring.

Nice to have

• Experience building AI assistants, conversational agents, or decision-support tools in healthcare, clinical workflows, regulated products, or other high-trust environments.
