Location: Must be based in or able to commute to Redwood City, CA (Hybrid: 3 days/week in office)

Salary: $168,000 – $205,000

What you will do

• Design, build, and operate scalable database infrastructure for mission-critical production and AI systems.
• Scale relational, analytical, and vector data stores to support growing product and AI workloads.
• Own database architecture decisions including partitioning, sharding, replication, and query optimization.
• Partner with AI teams to support infrastructure for embeddings, vector search, and retrieval-augmented generation.
• Operate tier-0 data services with strong reliability, observability, and disaster recovery practices.
• Build automation and tooling to improve database provisioning, migrations, and capacity planning.

Requirements

• 7+ years of industry experience in database infrastructure, backend infrastructure, or distributed systems.
• Deep hands-on experience operating and scaling production databases in high-availability environments.
• Strong experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, CockroachDB) and analytical stores (ClickHouse, Snowflake).
• Experience with vector databases or search systems (pgvector, Pinecone, Milvus).
• Strong programming skills in Python, C++, or Go.
• Experience with cloud infrastructure, Kubernetes, and infrastructure-as-code practices.

Nice to have

• Experience with streaming systems like Kafka or Spark.
• Deep knowledge of database internals, storage engines, or distributed consensus.
• Experience managing cost and performance tradeoffs across cloud-managed and self-hosted systems.
